4 Ways to Improve Your Skin Tone with Buttermilk

Buttermilk is a fermented dairy product, which is very popular during the summer season. A glass of chilled buttermilk is refreshing and invigorating. Originally, buttermilk was referred to as the liquid that was left over after churning butter from cream. However, today it is described as a fermented dairy drink, common in many countries with warm climates. But, do you know using it can help you improve your skin tone too.

1. Skin Tone
- Mix enough buttermilk with ½ cup of gram flour and 1 teaspoon of turmeric to make a smooth paste. Apply this mask on the skin. Allow it to dry on its own, then rub off the mask using wet fingers. Finally, wash your face with water. Use this skin-lightening mask once a week.
- For a daily treatment, mix a pinch of saffron in ½ cup of buttermilk and set it aside for 30 minutes. Then, apply the solution on the skin and massage gently. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then rinse it off thoroughly. Use this remedy once daily.

2. Spots on Face
- Apply buttermilk on your spots and marks using a cotton ball. Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing the area with water. Follow this remedy once or twice daily until the marks are gone.
- Alternatively, mix 2 tablespoons of dry orange peel powder with enough buttermilk to make a paste. Apply this paste on your skin and gently massage it around. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then scrub it off and rinse with with cold water. Use this remedy 2 or 3 times a week.

3. Removes Tan
- Blend ¼ cup of cold buttermilk along with ½ of a tomato. Optionally, add a handful of mint leaves. Apply this liquid to your suntanned skin. Allow it to dry on its own. Do this once daily.
- Alternatively, mix 2 teaspoons each of buttermilk and honey. Apply it on the affected area using your fingertips. Massage for 5 minutes, then let it sit for 20 minutes. Finally, wash off the area with plain water. Repeat 1 or 2 times daily.

4. Cleaning Skin
- Dip a cotton ball in buttermilk and use it to cleanse your face. Then, rinse your skin with plain water. Use this simple remedy daily before going to bed.
- Alternatively, mix together equal amounts of buttermilk and rose water, then add some drops of olive or almond oil to the mixture. Soak a cotton ball in this liquid and gently cleanse your skin of dirt and grime. Allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Use it daily or a few times a week.
