Makar Sankranti- TV Actors Shares Memories of Makar Sankranti

With the diverse Indian culture, we have many festivals celebrated by the various communities in India. And while the spirit of oneness prevails in all the festivals, today at Lohri and Makar Sankranti too the country will celebrate with flying kites and dance through the night. But as we all are busy celebrating, we are always keen to know how our actors enjoy these festivals and talking about the same we have a few TV actors sharing their fond memories of the festivals.

Vatsal Seth who recently got married to actress Ishita Dutta and was seen on the TV show Haasil said that he will celebrate the festival this year on his show’s set. “Every year I go to Ahmedabad to fly a kite, the whole atmosphere is festive and people get new energy. This year due to the tight schedule of Haasil I will not be able to go to Ahmedabad. The kite flying is in the blood of the Gujaratis. However, this year I will bring a kite on the sets of the show and will fly it during the shoot,” he told an online portal.

And though many have some celebration on the kite flying festival, TV actress Sneha Wagh does not celebrate this festival, she says, “We don’t celebrate this festival, as I lost my grandfather on the same day. He was the eldest in the house. So it’s mostly a mourning day for us.”

Dil Se Dil Tak fame Jasmin Bhasin celebrates the festival in the most traditional way, “My memories of Makar Sankranti include flying kites with all my cousins. We used to enjoy a lot on our terrace. We would also have Til and Gud ka laddu. I will try to fly a kite on this Makar Sankranti too.”

While Rishta Likhege Hum Nayaa actress Tejasswi Prakash shares the special bond she has with Makar Sankranti, she tells a portal that, “The festival of Makar Sankranti is very important to me. I have a special relationship with Rajasthan, even my last show was shot right there. We enjoy a lot; we fly kites and have sweets. This is a festival of peace and prosperity and a new beginning. I enjoy flying kite, I do this every year and I am very good at this. It is best to see beautiful and colourful kites in the sky and the whole atmosphere becomes festive and happy.”

Porus actor Hrishikesh Pandey recalls his childhood memories and says, “From childhood, every year I remember the first thing we used to do is have a bath and then do puja of Suryadev. Then we would have Til Ke Laddu. There is a traditional khichdi which is made in the afternoon with desi ghee, and after the puja, you would have that. When we were small, we used to fly kites on the terrace and used to have a lot of fun. Now, of course, I understand that there are birds get hurt or even killed by the kites. So now I avoid that.”

Sehban Azim who will be seen with Jennifer Winget in Bepanaah soon, shares his memories of Lohri, by saying, “I grew up in northern India so Makar Sankranti was known as Lohri. The festival marks the end of winters and when it’s time for the harvest. My recollection of Lohri or Makar Sankranti memories goes back to my school and college. My friends and I would be flying kites, lighting bonfires, devouring scrumptious food and having a wonderful time. I love flying kites and would love to do it again and again. The best part of the evening was to fly a kite with a candle attached to it and then leave it in the sky. The longer it stayed in the sky, the longer the happiness would last.”
