Guide To Care For Your Leather Pants

With the winter setting in, there is no better way to counter the nip in the air than with a smart jacket, leather pants and a muffler thrown in. In case you have not invested in a good pair of leather pants, hop over to your nearest store this weekend and get one. They are so in fashion and once you slip into them and see what wonders they do to your legs, you will be obsessed with them!

Regular use, excessive moisture or sweat will slightly stiffen the pants and that is your cue to wash them. First thing to remember is not to wash leather pants using regular detergent that can strip away all the oils in it. Try using a baby shampoo because there is nothing milder than it.

Before wash, do a patch test on a small portion with some soap to see if it disintegrates your leather. If the quality of leather is not good, then washing can disintegrate it.

It is advisable to hand wash leather. If you have to machine wash, then do check your clothing’s wash care instructions as to whether it is suitable for machine wash. Always run the machine on “gentle cycle” only while washing leather.

Use lukewarm water. Add some baby shampoo and foam it up. Soak your leather garment in it until it soaks up some shampoo.

Gently use your fingers or a sponge to remove any stains or dirt in the garment. Rinse the garment in lukewarm water.

Squeeze it gently to remove excess water.

Use a towel to wipe dry any metal zippers, buckles or buttons in the garment since they can rust.

Now lay out the towel on the floor and place your leather garment on it flat to dry.

Make sure you dry it away from heat and sunlight. Replace the towel when it soaks up a lot of water and flip the garment once in a few hours.

Leather dried like this can take up to 2-3 days to fully dry.

Follow this up with a leather conditioner. The oil in the conditioner will make your leather garment soft and supple.

So worry not about wash and care and flaunt your leather pants in style this winter.
