International Coffee Day- 5 Cold Coffee Recipes To Try From Around The World

When you meet up with friends at a café, what’s the first thing you order? A cold coffee of course! And no one needs a menu for that. While we might be used to the common coffee, milk, sugar and ice cream combination, there are several different varieties of this refreshing, delicious hit of caffeine around the world.

Here are some iced coffee and cold coffee recipes you can try at home:

* Frappe, Greece

This Greek drink is traditionally made with instant coffee, water, milk and sugar. Add the ingredients, give them a good shake and serve over ice.

Ingredients

instant coffee (Nescafe)
sugar
milk
ice cubes
cold water
drinking straw
frappe mixer

Method

- To prepare this Greek frappe coffee recipe, first of all get a tall glass, a teaspoon and an electric whizzer.

- Then add instant coffee (Nescafe), sugar and a shot of cold water.

- Whiz the mixture until a thick, creamy foam is produced.

- Pour the mixture into the serving glass.

- Then add 3 ice cubes and evaporated milk if you like.

- Fill up the glass with cold water and serve with a drinking straw.

- The exact proportions of the ingredients vary according to preferance. See also above for the recommended proportions of the ingredients.

* Oliang, Thailand

This traditional Thai iced coffee gets its flavour from soybeans, sesame and corn, and sometimes cardamom. It’s served with either sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk or unsweetened condensed milk and is a creamy, sweet delight.

Ingredients

4 tablespoons of Oliang Powder Mixed
1 cup of boiling water
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of evaporated milk
1 tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk
some ice cubes
1 to 3 tablespoons of evaporated milk (according to your taste)

Method

- Set the coffee filter to a pitcher. (I am using a French Press for the pitcher.) Put Oliang Powder Mixed and pour boiling water into it.

- Wait for 5 to 10 minutes.

- Remove the coffee filter.

- Pour 100 ml of coffee to the cup. Add sugar, evaporated milk and condensed milk. Stir thoroughly.

- Pour the mixture on ice.

- Pour additional evaporated milk according to your taste.

- Enjoy!

* Mocha Cola, Brazil

If you’re looking for a caffeine high, this is your drink. It comes with coffee, lots of chocolate and cola! Top it up with some whipped cream and you’re good to go.

Ingredients

1 cup double strength coffee
12 oz can cola
3 cups chocolate milk
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Method

- Brew coffee twice as strong as package recommendations. I used instant because I haven’t been drinking coffee lately, but you can, and should, use the best quality you have.

- Chill coffee. I placed mine in the freezer for 15 minutes and that took the edge off.

- Combine coffee, cola, and chocolate milk.

- Pour over ice and top with whipped cream. Serve immediately.

* Eiskaffee, Germany

Coffee for dessert anyone? The German eiskaffee is strong coffee that’s topped with ice cream, grated chocolate and whipped cream.

Ingredients

Strong brewed coffee, chilled
1 – 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (bourbon vanilla, if you can find it)
Whipped cream (Germans use unsweetened)
Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder as garnish

Method

- Pour your chilled coffee in a glass while leaving enough room for the ice cream.

- Add 1 – 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (or however much your heart desires).

- Top it off with a healthy dose of whipped cream (whipped cream is healthy, right?).

- Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder

- Serve with a spoon and drink with a straw. This is a must. Okay, not really but it is the way it’s usually done.
