Can you survive without the 'selfie'?

Ever thought what is it that you get by clicking innumerable selfies of yourself everytime you dress up for an occasion? Can you challenge yourself to delete all the similar looking selfies of yourself clicked in the last month? Wait, are your eyes wide open already?! Because deleting something so dear is total sacrilege, isn't it? Let us try to understand what your selfies could really mean about you.

If you constantly clicking pictures of yourself and posting them on your Facebook or Whatsapp status, you may be suffering from what is now being referred to as 'Sekfitis'. Some psychologists believe that selfitis is a genuine mental disorder characterized by " the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of oneself and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy."

Obsession with selfies is linked to narcissism, low self-esteem, self objectification, body dysmorphic disorder and many other neurotic traits.
The high that we get when somebody likes our pictures on social media and the self doubt that we indulge in if enough people do not 'like' our posts, is indicative of the vaccum that is there inside us.

Come to think of it. If our phones did not come with a camera in then and if there were no apps to enhance, beautify or filter our pictures, what would we do? What would you do with the time that would get saved by not clicking photos, editing them, posting them and then and comments on your pictures?

So, here a wellness challenge for you all, keep your camera phone away for at least three days and let us know what you did with the time that was saved.

If you could take a selfie of your soul, would you find it attractive enough to post?"
