Coronavirus In Maharashtra / State’s COVID-19 Death Toll Crosses 17,000-mark

Covid-19 death toll in Maharashtra has crossed 17,000-mark on Friday, with 300 new fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 17,092 until now. Meanwhile, the state is short of 10,000 corona cases to breach 5 lakh mark, the total number of cases has now surged to 4,90,262, with 10,483 new cases being reported.

However, of 300 deaths, 229 were from the last 48 hours, 40 from last week, and 31 from the period before last week. Of the total deaths, 121 were from the Mumbai, followed by 83 in Pune, 40 in Nashik, 15 in Nagpur, 14 in Latur, 12 in Kolhapur, 10 in Akola and four in Aurangabad, while one death was from another state.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate on Friday reduced to 13 per cent from 15.45 per cent which was just a day before – as the state conducted 81,655 tests, highest in the last 24 hours since the first coronavirus case was reported in Maharashtra on March 9.

BMC Makes 14 Days Of Home Quarantine Compulsory For Domestic Travellers

Domestic passengers arriving in Mumbai will now have to isolate at home for 14 days as a precaution against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement.

The BMC issued this directive to its staff deputed at the airport as well as the airport officials on August 3. All arriving passengers without "written exemption" must be stamped, requiring them to undergo home quarantine for 14 days, it said.

"All passengers arriving in Mumbai will be stamped on their left hand for identification and will have to compulsorily undergo home isolation and self-monitor for a period of 14 days as per protocol. Local authorities will be authorised to give exemptions for contributing to an office or other important work after checking passengers," the statement said.

Coronavirus In Pune / With 2,620 New COVID-19 Cases On Friday

Pune district reported 2,620 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its COVID-19 count to 1,02,884, an official said on Friday. The death toll increased by 34 during this period to reach 2,344, he said.

"Of the new cases, 1,249 are in Pune Municipal Corporation limits, which now has 63,286 cases, while 960 are in Pimpri Chinchwad where the count is 27,078 now. Rural and cantonment areas have 12,520 cases overall. A total of 1,168 people were discharged during the day," the official informed.

In Pune COVID-19 recovery rate improves

Pune has recorded COVID-19 recovery rate of 70.29 per cent - the highest so far for the city battling with the coronavirus pandemic ever since the outbreak in March. The percentage of COVID-19 positive cases has reduced from 26.1 per cent in between July 17 and 23 to 24.1 per cent from July 31 to August 6. The death rate has also gone down to 2.39 per cent from 2.43 per cent in the last week of July.

The improvement in numbers is seen as a result of the recent 10-day lockdown in the city and neighbouring areas.
