Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi stokes controversy with ‘crow yoga’ tweet

Amid an ongoing face-off with Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, a tweet from Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has stoked controversy. Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi tweeted a picture of a crow with a caption “crow yoga.”

The tweet received severe criticism from social media users and accusations of racism and discrimination being hurled at Bedi. The controversy started when Bedi tweeted a picture of two crows sitting on a branch, with one crow extending its wing. She captioned the tweet, “Yes it is. It depends on the purpose for which u sit… what kind of ‘Asanas’ you perform and the ‘sound’ u create?…”

This tweet caused an onslaught of criticism. Twitter users have slammed Kiran Bedi for appearing to mock the dark skin tone of V Narayanaswamy through her tweet. DMK MP Kanimozhi also took to Twitter to voice her disappointment over Kiran Bedi’s tweet. “@thekiranbedi must apologise for her arrogant, racist comment on @CMPuducherry.Her Klansman colors are coming out,” she posted.

Kiran Bedi told Deccan Chronicle, “I saw this being done by a crow as well as the cat. Why misread it for the sake of anything you do? It has nothing to do with any person. I shoot (photograph) and share daily of birds in Raj Nivas. I am very fond of birds. See my several tweets on birds. All kinds. I just love them.”
