Villagers rescue 6 trekkers stuck at Chanderi Fort in Badlapur

A group of six trekkers, including three girls, were rescued from Chanderi Fort, which is 17 km from Badlapur station, after five hours of efforts by a Chinchavli locals and Badlapur police rescue team on Sunday morning. The trekkers, are professionals including three girls who had gone to Chanderi Fort on Saturday morning, but were trapped in the fort overnight due to heavy downpour and losing their way while returning to the village. Anurag Deshmukh, one of the trekkers, called his friend and disclosed about the ordeal they were going through.

Thereafter, his friend called up Badlapur Gramin police and informed them about the incident. On Sunday morning after a 5-hour ordeal, the police rescued all of them safely. Badlapur’s Chinchavli villagers and the local police launched a rescue operation at 8.30 am on Sunday. The efforts ended successfully at 12.30 pm with the rescue of all six trekkers. Anurag Deshmukh, Siddharth Gajebiye, Jacob Abraham and three other girls (all 21) were the names of the rescued trekkers.

“We received call nearly 8 am from one of the trekkers’ friends alerting us about the incident and we reached to the spot in half-an-hour,” Rashid Tadavi said. “Those young trekkers were not having any knowledge about the place, but they had carried all their safety equipment,” Tadavi said. According to police sources as they did not inform the villagers before going to the fort, the villagers were also unaware that anyone was trapped on the fort.”
