5 Home Remedies To Treat UTI

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is an infection in urinary tract affecting mostly kidneys, ureters, urethra, bladder and the urinary tract itself. Bacteria, virus and fungi cause the infection but mostly bacteria from the bowels, colon and vagina cause the infection. UTI affect both men and women but is mostly diagnosed in women as their urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the bladder is shorter in women than men, which makes it easier for bacteria to enter and reach bladder. 80% of UTI cases involve two types of bacteria one is Escherichia coli and the other is Staphylococcus saprophyticus.

There are chances if you’re having sex you might get UTI because bacteria from colon and vagina gets into the urethra during foreplay and intercourse. Studies say that vigorous sex causes inflamed bladder which makes bacteria stick to its lining. However, treating UTI is not that tough job if some precautions and preventive measures are taken such as drinking lots of water, keeping vagina clean, cleaning vagina and anus before and after sex. Usually, doctors recommend antibiotics for treating UTI, but there are some effective home remedies to treat UTI even faster.

* Drinking coconut water

One of the best home remedies to treat UTI, if someone asks me, I would say green coconut water. That’s because, coconut water is a natural diuretic that helps to flush out bacteria from the urinary tract easily keeping you well hydrated and filling you with essential minerals. Besides that, it cools down your stomach and also eases bladder irritation.

* Increasing vitamin C intake

Vitamin C are quite effective in protecting against urinary tract infections. Increasing the intake of vitamin C while having UTI can reduce the infection up to 55% that is because it increases acidity of the urine that kills bacteria causing infection.
