Healthy and Sweet Amla Candy Recipe

Finding a wholesome snack that children genuinely enjoy can be quite challenging. Most packaged options are loaded with refined white sugar, artificial colors, and synthetic flavoring agents. This healthy Amla Candy Recipe offers a simple and effective homemade alternative.

Many people attempt to prepare it at home but do not get the desired results. The candy often becomes either too hard or overly bitter in taste. The key technique is steaming the amla instead of boiling it, which helps preserve its natural texture and keeps it soft and chewy for a long time.

This vegetarian snack is rich in natural Vitamin C, making it a great choice to support immunity, especially during colder months. Preparing it at home also ensures complete control over the ingredients, helping you avoid unnecessary additives commonly found in store-bought versions.

With just a few basic ingredients, you can easily begin the process. Although it requires some patience, the final outcome is truly rewarding. It also works well as a quick energy-boosting snack in the morning. Let’s explore why this homemade recipe is such a great option.

Ingredients:

500 g fresh amla (Indian gooseberry)
1 cup sugar or jaggery (as per preference)
1 tsp black salt (optional)
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
Water for boiling/steaming

Method:

1. Clean and Prepare Amla
Wash the amla properly and wipe them dry. Prick each amla lightly with a fork so the syrup can absorb better.

2. Steam the Amla
Steam the amla for about 8–10 minutes until they become slightly soft. Let them cool, then gently separate the segments if needed.

3. Remove Seeds
Break open the amla and remove the seeds carefully. Keep the pieces intact as much as possible.

4. Prepare Sugar Syrup
In a pan, add sugar and a little water. Heat until the sugar dissolves and forms a light syrup (not too thick).

5. Soak Amla
Add the amla pieces into the syrup and let them soak for 24 hours.

6. Dry the Amla
Remove the amla pieces and spread them on a tray. Sun-dry them for 2–3 days or until they become chewy and non-sticky.

7. Final Touch
Sprinkle black salt and cardamom powder for extra flavor.
