Air hostess alleges rape by colleague, his friend in Mumbai

A 25-year-old air hostess, who had just relocated to Mumbai from Hyderabad on Monday, has claimed she was gang-raped by a security officer from the airline she works for and his roommate(s). After her complaint, MIDC Police arrested the security officer, Swapnil Badonia, 23, from his Andheri residence.

They are interrogating his roommates to ascertain the latter's role in the incident. The air hostess was in the process of relocation on Monday.

After her flight from Hyderabad landed, she was being driven to her new Mumbai residence near Goregaon in the company car. Badonia too was accompanying her but he alighted at Infinity Mall and she proceeded to her residence. After she deposited her luggage, she joined Badonia for drinks at a cafe in Malad, where they remained until the place closed for the night.

She claims she threw up after this. The next morning, she claims, she woke up to find herself in Badonia's rented flat in Andheri. She awoke with body ache, had a swollen eye and there were bite marks on her person. As per the First Information Report (FIR), she confronted the accused about her pain but Badonia dismissed it as a hangover.

She then asked a female roommate of Badonia what had happened but the woman kept mum, the air hostess alleged in the FIR. As the air hostess had not been answering her phone since Monday night, her parents were anxious and, on Tuesday, her boyfriend came looking for her.

He traced her to a fast food restaurant in Andheri where she was with the accused. He then took her to KEM Hospital, where authorities informed the MIDC police station.

On her complaint, the MIDC Police have registered an FIR under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections of gang rape (376 D), voluntarily causing hurt (323), acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (34).

The police arrested Badonia from his Andheri residence and he was produced in court on Wednesday and sent to police custody till June 10. The police have seized his clothes and bedsheets for investigation.
