5 Very Significant Sights To See in Haryana

Haryana is also known as the “abode of God”. This large state which lies next to Delhi has a high religious significance. The epic Mahabharata war is believed to have been fought here. That is why people think that it’s a holy land. Besides this, Haryana is one of the major agricultural sources for India. It is also in a race to become an industrialised state.

All of these are contributors to some very significant sights to see in Haryana. Although there are many, I’ve rounded up the top six for you.

* Kurukshetra

It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India. Every day, thousands of Indians and tourists come here.The significance of this land is that the Mahabharata war took place here. This was also the place where Lord Krishna taught Arjun the values of life and death which we know today as “Bhagavadgita”.Some people say that sometimes if you really concentrate and focus your mind in devotion, you can still hear the sounds of the deadly war that took place here. This battleground dates back to about 2800 BC, and it is indeed a blissful experience to visit this holy land.The devotion of the people will awe you as they come from even South India to get a glimpse of the Kurukshetra battleground.Some places of interest here include Sri Krishna Museum, Bhishma Kund, Bhadrakali Temple, Birla Mandir, Jyotisar and Kalpana Chawla Planetarium.

* Kingdom of Dreams

This huge building or monument or whatever you’d like to call it (I prefer to think that it is another world) will be the experience of a lifetime for you. Situated in Gurgaon, which is the periphery of Delhi and Haryana, this is the best place to visit with your family for a day.Once you enter the building, it’s a different universe altogether. You will be in awe of it (just like I stood gaping at everything when I first went in). Their ceilings are made to look like the night sky (or you could say bewitched like the ceilings in Harry Potter). There are some shops within where you could get amazing ethnic stuff (Tip from a local: You can get these things at a lower price from anywhere else like Jodhpur, Udaipur or even Chandni Chowk. They double the price in here).There are many events and programmes arranged in here that you will enjoy. The restaurants are the best part in this place. For the Rajasthani restaurant, they have made its walls in such a manner that it feels like you have entered some remote village. And if you are not big fans of local cuisines, there is a huge McDonald’s shop in here too.It is like a Disneyland in India. So get ready to take a day off and visit this super cool place. It’s also an ideal vacation spot for children.

* CyberHub, Gurgaon

Nearby Kingdom of Dreams is one of, if not the, best dining experience in India. CyberHub is a large European like square filled over 40 restaurants. It’s an outdoor complex that’s built in the middle of the major accounting firms: KPGM, EY, and Deloitte. It’s clean, affluent, and features all the best restaurants India has to offer in one perfect outdoor location.

Visit Chai Point for Masala Chai before you start exploring all the other bars and restaurants. Try Parsi food at the standout SodaBottleOpenerWala restaurant (Sali Chicken and the Mutton Berry Biryani are must tries) then end the night at one of the roof top clubs. CyberHub is the perfect night out.

* Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a unique city. It is the capital of two states: Punjab and Haryana. It is the most well-planned cities in India. It is also quite modern in its planning.Because Chandigarh lies somewhere between both these states, it has a contemporary outlook with an ancient touch. Everyone adores Chandigarh and you will too. You will also find some of the most helpful people here. They are extremely friendly and warm.Chandigarh has its share of tourist attractions. Some of them are The Rock Garden, Butterfly Park, Sukhna Lake and International Dolls Museum.

* Panipat

This small town in Haryana has a solid religious significance backing it.It is believed that the five Pandavas (sons of Pandu) found this city. It is situated right next to the river Yamuna. At the time when the Pandavas constructed this town, the river would have been clean and pure. In fact, Yamuna is considered holy in scriptures. But now with all the industrial effluents being dumped into it, Yamuna has become no less than a sewage drain. It’s a pity.But at least you have better views in Panipat. This small town has some attractive tourist sights including the Panipat Museum, Old Fort and Devi Temple.
