History

Modern Singapore rise in the 19 century. Singapore was then established as a special trading port of the region. Meanwhile, Great Britain also needed a strategic port for its business activities. The then Governor Lieutenant Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles described Singapore as full of immense capabilities. He made Singapore a trading center by negotiating with local rulers. The island's free trade policy attracted traders from as far as Asia-Middle East and America. By 1832 , Singapore had become the center of Penang, Malacca and the surrounding area. With the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the arrival of telegraphs and steamers, Singapore grew in importance but in 1941In the Second World War, Japan's attack gave a major blow to the peace and prosperity of the country. Considered as an impregnable fortress, Singapore remained under Japanese occupation for the next three and a half years. Singapore finally became an independent and sovereign democratic nation on 9 August 1965 after going through many political ups and downs .

The development model

Changi Airport of Singapore began in 1981 and Singapore Airlines became a major airline. The Port of Singapore became one of the busiest ports in the world and the service and tourism industry also grew rapidly during this time. Gradually, Singapore, despite its limited resources, has become an important transport hub, major tourist destination and a model of development for many countries. Indian industrialists believe that if the labor laws in India are liberalized and existing resources are optimally utilized, Singapore's development model can be successfully implemented in the country as well.
