Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice
1 cup moong dal
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
2 cardamom pods
1 bay leaf
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste
2 green chilies, chopped
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
Salt to taste
4 cups water
Coriander leaves for garnish

Method

- Rinse the basmati rice and moong dal together in water and soak for 30 minutes.

- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and bay leaf.

- Add chopped onion, ginger paste, garlic paste, and green chilies. Saute until the onion is soft and translucent.

- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

- Drain the water from the soaked rice and moong dal and add them to the pressure cooker.

- Add 4 cups of water and mix well.

- Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the khichdi is cooked and the water is absorbed.

- Let the pressure release naturally, then open the pressure cooker and fluff the khichdi with a fork.
