At present, Hindi is not a compulsory subject in many non-Hindi speaking states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, West Bengal and Assam.

Moreover, the report also recommends a uniform syllabus for Science and Mathematics across all the schools of the country and promoting skill-based education. The policy also encourages for developing a syllabus in local languages up to class 5 in areas where they are spoken.

The Indian Express quoted HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar as saying that he will get the report after the Parliament winter session ends. The policy also recommends developing a permanent education committee, headed by the Prime Minister, a regulatory mechanism to be strengthened and headed by someone from outside the government and for technical and professional courses to be promoted among SC/ST students.
