Singer Sonu Nigam recently opened up about a painful nerve-related condition that has affected his health over the past week, requiring extensive medical attention. The singer revealed that he has undergone multiple MRI and CT scans and has been taking several medications as part of his treatment.
On Tuesday, Sonu shared a video on Instagram in which he spoke candidly about the health issue, describing the experience as physically demanding and emotionally draining.
“My nerves are pinched. I have been taking MRI and CT scans for a week. I have been taking a lot of medicines,” Sonu said in the video while showing a medical patch on his shoulder.
He explained that the condition has kept him under close medical supervision, with treatment involving diagnostic scans, medications, and regular physiotherapy sessions. According to the singer, physiotherapy has been particularly difficult.
“Physiotherapy was very painful. I am taking painkillers now. Due to that, my throat is also a little heavy,” he shared.
Sonu further revealed that the muscle relaxants prescribed during his recovery have affected his throat, a significant concern for a singer preparing for a live performance. Despite the discomfort, he chose to honour his professional commitments and went ahead with a scheduled performance in Mumbai. He captioned the video, “13th June, Mumbai ❤️🩹”.
The acclaimed singer is set to perform in Mumbai again later this month. Speaking about his decision to continue performing, Sonu said he was determined to return to the stage after a long gap despite the health challenges.
Sonu Nigam began his musical journey at a young age and received his first major opportunity from the late Gulshan Kumar when he was just 19. He rose to national fame as the host of Sa Re Ga Ma in 1995 and made his Hindi playback singing debut with O Aasman Wale Zameen Par Utar Ke Dekh from Aaja Meri Jaan (1993).
Over the course of his career, Sonu has recorded more than 5,000 songs in multiple languages and won a National Film Award for the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). His repertoire includes iconic songs such as Yeh Dil Deewana (Pardes), Suraj Hua Maddham (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham), and Kal Ho Naa Ho. Even today, his timeless tracks continue to resonate with audiences and frequently trend on social media. In recent years, the singer has remained active with concert tours and live performances across India.
