15 Natural Ingredients To Improve Your Platelet Count

A low platelet count is a condition in which the blood has fewer platelets than normal. Medically known as thrombocytopenia, it occurs when platelet levels drop below 1,50,000 per microlitre of blood, whereas the healthy range is between 1,50,000 and 4,50,000. A laboratory test is required to determine a person’s platelet count.
Why does platelet count decrease?
Platelet levels fall when their production in the bone marrow slows down or when they are destroyed in the bloodstream, liver, or spleen. Certain cancers, kidney disorders, autoimmune conditions, and excessive alcohol consumption can also lead to the destruction of platelets.
Common signs of low platelet count include frequent bleeding from the nose or gums and easy bruising.
While treatments like platelet transfusions and spleen-removal surgery are available, it’s often beneficial to try natural or home remedies first.
15 Foods That Help Boost Platelet Count
# Papaya Leaf Juice
Ayurveda recognises papaya leaf juice as an excellent remedy for thrombocytopenia and dengue-related low platelet count. Consuming Carica papaya leaf juice with honey can significantly help increase platelets.
# Wheatgrass
Packed with chlorophyll, magnesium, zinc, beta-carotene, and powerful antioxidants, wheatgrass supports blood health and helps combat anaemia.
# Aloe Vera
Aloe vera contains over 200 active compounds that not only support platelet production but also strengthen immunity.
# Giloy
A potent Ayurvedic herb with antibacterial, anti-rheumatic, and anti-allergic properties. Giloy stem juice can improve immunity and support platelet levels.
# Herbal Concoction
Mix papaya leaf juice, wheatgrass, aloe vera, and giloy with honey. This combination acts as a powerful natural booster for platelet production.
# Amla
Amla (Indian gooseberry) helps increase platelet count. Consume 1 tablespoon two to three times daily.
# Ashwagandha Root
Known for boosting overall blood cell production, ashwagandha also supports platelet regeneration.
# Rohitakarishta
An Ayurvedic formulation traditionally used to improve low platelet counts.
# Tawa Tawa Tea
Drinking this herbal tea 2–3 times a day can promote platelet growth.
# Gotu Kola
An ancient adaptogen that supports the natural production of platelets.
# Vitamin K
Essential for blood clotting and reducing inflammation (which can harm platelets). Foods rich in Vitamin K include:
Spinach, kale, and other leafy greens
Salads
Broccoli & cauliflower
Soybeans
Eggs
# Vitamin B9 (Folate)
Important for cell division and platelet formation. Found in spinach, whole grains, oranges, and legumes.

These anti-inflammatory nutrients support platelet health. Sources include fish, walnuts, eggs, and flaxseeds.
# Antioxidant-Rich Fruits & Vegetables
Berries, red guava, dark green veggies, pumpkin, squash, and beetroot help boost platelet levels.

Enhances the body’s ability to absorb iron and supports platelet production. Found in lemons, oranges, tomatoes, and broccoli.
