Get Ready To be Wowd By These 6 Underwater Hotels

We definitely appreciate a room with a view, whether it’s overlooking the Alps from a penthouse suite or the African plains from a safari lounge. But how about a completely different ‘room with a view’? We have compiled a list of the best underwater hotels around the globe. These resorts offer travellers and locals a chance to experience something new, watching sea life and the ocean floor unfold in very different ways than typical scuba diving and snorkelling excursions. From partially submerged luxury hotels to actual submarine stays, we present the nine most spectacular underwater hotels on the planet.

# Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore

Located on the island of Sentosa off the southern coast of Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa is home to one of the world’s largest aquariums. This luxury hotel in Singapore offers 11 underwater suites tucked beside the SEA Aquarium and Adventure Cove water park. These suites are built like two-storied townhouses and offer guests the “best of both land and sea”. You get to enjoy an outdoor patio on the upper level as well as underwater views of the aquarium’s 40,000 fish on the lower level, including manta rays, clownfish, and so much more. The upper level of the suite also has its own private jacuzzi. The two-storey suites are over 1,000 square feet and come with personalised butler service to complement your relaxing stay. Enjoy five-star comfort amidst the spectacular views of this underwater sanctuary. This is one of the best underwater hotels you can stay in.

# Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, The Maldives

The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort is situated on two interconnected islands in the Indian Ocean. This luxury resort debuted a bi-level residence called The Muraka, which means coral in the Dhivehi language, in November 2018. It features rooms both above and below the surface of the Indian Ocean. The underwater portion of the resort offers a luxury suite submerged more than 16 feet underwater. This two-level villa has an above-water living area, a luxurious main bedroom with acrylic see-through walls, a bathroom, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, all below the Indian Ocean offering panoramic views of sea life. These underwater hotel rooms also include an infinity pool, butler’s quarters, and enough space to accommodate nine people.

However, the Muraka house isn’t the only place to experience the wonder of the sea here at this underwater hotel in Maldives. The resort also has an undersea restaurant that serves lunch and dinner 16 feet below the ocean’s surface. Ithaa (meaning ‘mother of pearl’ in the Dhivehi language) offers an intimate experience as there are only 12 seats available. Known as the first “all-glass undersea restaurant,” this upscale establishment serves delectable and locally-sourced seafood options along with indulgences such as caviar.

# Jules’ Undersea Lodge, Key Largo, Florida

Named after ‘20,000 League Under The Sea’ author Jules Verne, this Key Largo underwater hotel has a unique stipulation. You have to scuba dive down 21 feet to reach its entrance. Don’t worry if you are not a certified diver—you have to spend a three-hour crash course before you can turn in for the night. Jules Undersea Lodge used to be a marine research facility and therefore offers unique views of a protected mangrove lagoon and natural nursery area for reef fish. This underwater hotel is the only one on this list that is completely underwater. The Undersea Lodge has been taking in guests since 1986 and features all the comforts of home, such as a full kitchen, hot showers, and entertainment options like music, movies and books. Along with outstanding views of the ocean and marine life, the guests can also book a private chef to swim down and prepare a meal for them underwater. The staff here stays on duty 24 hours to ensure safety and a high-quality experience. Approximately the size of a small cottage, the lodge can comfortably accommodate six guests.

# Utter Inn, Sweden

Designed by local artist Mikael Genberg, Utter Inn in Sweden is a modest underwater hotel. The inn isn’t necessarily a luxury accommodation like the other underwater hotels on this list. However, it is perfect for a quiet, romantic vacation. It is anchored a kilometre out on Lake Malaren, near Stockholm and has two rooms—one above water, the other 10 feet below; the two rooms are connected by what is essentially a ladder. To reach the inn, you’re taken from the port of Vasteras by boat and then left alone with some instructions. The underwater space has windows facing every direction, while the red-and-white wooden deck is perfect for sunbathing amid the gorgeous natural surroundings. To expand this unique experience, you can also explore Malaren lake’s islands by boat, including the former Viking settlement, Birka. This underwater hotel is one of the most affordable aquatic lodging options, and if you opt for the deluxe option, you can even get your dinner delivered. The Inn’s underwater room houses only two single beds and is therefore designed to accommodate two people at a time.

# The Manta Resort, Tanzania

Submerge yourself in the Zanzibar archipelago off the coast of Tanzania at The Manta Resort. It is best known for its three-level underwater room that lies 13 feet below the surface and is situated in a marine conservation area off Pemba Island. This private accommodation is only accessible via a two-min boat ride from the main shore, so it feels more like a tiny private island than a hotel suite. The floating villa is anchored to the ocean floor and offers coral reef views from its submerged bedroom, plus incredible stargazing views from its roof deck. Open since 2013, The Underwater Room has two outdoor decks: the top deck is used as a lounge area, perfect for sunbathing, while the bottom is completely submerged underwater. Guests get to enjoy 360 degrees of an underwater panorama, where meals can be served at pre-arranged times. The underwater hotel room’s security guard is anchored nearby during the stay. The floating Manta Underwater room looks like an uptown version of Utter Inn in Sweden and that’s because this is also a Mikael Genberg design. The resort can accommodate around 42 guests at a time.

# Huvafen Fushi, Maldives

Another underwater hotel in Maldives, Huvafen Fushi is a boutique hotel and is located in the North Malé Atoll. Other than relaxing on your own private stretch of sugar-white sand, snorkelling in one of the Maldives best house reefs, or swimming in the lagoon-like infinity-edged pool, you can also experience the world’s first underwater spa. The Lime Spa here at Huvafen Fushi offers six overwater pavilions of which four are single and two are for couples. The spa’s two underwater couples’ treatment rooms offer panoramic reef views and a saltwater flotation pool which is filled with mineral-rich water from the ocean that lies just outside the window panes.
