Recipe- Traditional Indian Sweet Mahim Halwa

Mahim halwa is a traditional Indian sweet. It is named after Mahim, a place in Mumbai. With Diwali round the corner, you must be thinking of making some sweets. So here is easy and simple recipe for you.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup Milk
1/2 cup Sugar
2 tsp Ghee
1/4 cup fine Rava / Suji
2 tsp Ghee
Food color (Optional)
Cardamom powder
2 drops Kevada essence
Assorted Dry fruits

Method

* Take milk in a pan.

* Add sugar and bring it to boil.

* When sugar melts and milk begins to boil add ghee.

* Mix well and add rava.

* Add a little rava at a time and mix well. No lumps of rava should be formed.

* Cook it stirring continuously until it thickens up really good for about 4-5 minutes.

* When the mixture thickens up well and begins to leave the sides of the pan add ghee again and mix well.

* Add food color and mix well.

* It is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want to.

* Add cardamom powder and mix well.

* Add kevada essence and mix well.

* The mixture for making halwa is all-ready.

* Turn off the gas and let the mixture cool down a little for at least 10 minutes.

* Spread wax paper. You can use a foil or plastic sheet in place of wax paper.

* Pour out the halwa mixture on the wax paper and spread it evenly.

* After spreading it a little, cover with another wax paper and spread it evenly with a rolling pin.

* Take off the upper wax paper and spread dry nuts.

* You can spread saffron if you want.

* Again cover with wax paper and roll with a rolling pin.

* Take the upper wax paper off.

* Let it dry as it is for about an hour.

* When the upper surface dries again cover it with wax paper and let it dry completely overnight or for a whole day.

* Take the upper wax paper off and cut it into square pieces.

* Cut the mahim halwa along with wax paper with the help of scissors along with the cuts.

* Mahim halwa is all-ready.
