Public Outrage In Assam Ahead Of PM Modi’s Namrup Visit, Allegations Of Administrative High-handedness And Damage To Farmers’ Crops

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Namrup in Assam draws closer, the region is witnessing a surge of public resentment fuelled by serious accusations against the local administration. Residents and farmers have voiced strong objections, alleging that official actions taken in the name of event preparedness have caused irreparable damage to standing paddy crops, triggering widespread outrage and anxiety across nearby villages.
According to villagers, administrative authorities allegedly allowed truckloads of stones, sand, and construction material to be dumped directly onto fertile agricultural land. These fields, they claim, were full of mature paddy crops just weeks away from harvest. What was meant to be routine groundwork for a high-profile political visit has, in their view, turned into a devastating blow for families who rely entirely on these crops for their livelihood.
Farmers say the destruction of their fields has pushed them to the brink of financial distress. For many households, the damaged paddy fields represent their only source of income for the year. The alleged negligence has therefore not only ruined crops but has also threatened food security and economic stability for several families, transforming a single administrative decision into a broader humanitarian concern.
Fueling public anger further, a video capturing the aftermath of the incident has spread rapidly across social media platforms. The footage shows an elderly woman, believed to be the landowner, confronting officials at the site. Visibly shaken and enraged, she questions their actions in an emotional outcry, asking whether those responsible were “human beings or demons.” Her words, filled with pain and disbelief, have struck a chord with viewers across Assam and beyond.
