5 Essential Oils That are Good For Both Skin and Hair

We all use essential oils nowadays as these oils not only have medicinal and ayurvedic properties but also using an essential oil brings us into an elites class (wink). So what are basically essential oils Essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile (easily evaporated at normal temperatures) chemical compounds from Plants Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, or simply as the oil of the plant from which they were extracted, such as clove oil. Essential oil is essential in the sense that it contains the essence of the plant’s fragrance that means the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is obtained. The term essential used here does not mean indispensable as with the terms essential amino acids or essential fatty acids are so called since they are nutritionally required by a given living organism. In contrast to fatty oils, essential oils typically evaporate completely without leaving a stain or residue. Essential oils are also used in aromatherapy. So these oils are safe to use as they won’t stain your precious couches.

* Rosemary essential oil

For skin

This oil is colorless to pale yellow oil with a herby aroma. Astringent properties of this oil cleanse, hydrates and rejuvenate the skin, making it firm and gorgeous. It helps with wrinkles and under-eye bags as well as conditions damaged skin and lighten scars. Its anti-inflammatory properties are useful in reducing swelling and puffiness of skin as well as in healing burns. Massage your face with a few drops of this oil and especially under eyes to reduce puffiness.

For hair

Mix rosemary essential oil with any carrier oil before applying on hair massage gently. For hair growth, add 4-5 drops of the oil in 1 tsp of coconut oil. Mix this until it reaches a smooth consistency and evenly applies onto your hair and scalp. Leave it overnight. Wash off with lukewarm water and pat dry your hair without using heat.

* Eucalyptus oil

For skin

Eucalyptus contains a number of important properties, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antispasmodicThis oil helps to improve respiratory issues such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and allergies. It has the ability to reduce congestion and improve mental clarity as well. Mix it with any carrier oil before applying on skin. Massage gently. For hair

You can add a few drops to your last rinse of hair wash. The aroma will relax the mind and body. Also as this oil has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, it will significantly reduce scalp itching and any kind of bacterial growth on the scalp.

* Peppermint oil

For skin

The invigorating and fresh mint aroma of the peppermint essential oil works to stimulates the mind and clear the sinuses. For clear skin, add 4-5 drops of peppermint oil in two tablespoons of grated cucumber and two tablespoons of green clay. Whisk the ingredients and apply the paste as a face mask. Let it dry and wash with lukewarm water. Repeat this twice or thrice a week.

For hair

Mix it with any carrier oil before applying on hair and skin. Massage gently. Diffuse to get energized and increase alertness. Increasing circulation with a vasodilator like a peppermint could potentially improve hair growth and prevent some hair loss. Peppermint menthol also imparts a freshened smell and tingly sensation on the skin and scalp. You can reap these benefits by adding this essential oil.

* Rose oil

For skin


This oil can be used to achieve young, healthy and moisturized skin. The delicate aroma of the oil is useful for relieving anxiety and stress. For glowing skin, add to any skin cream or lotion to enhance its effect by increasing its absorption by the skin. To treat acne, add 4-5 drops in 1 tsp coconut oil and massage thrice a day.

For hair

* Tea tree oil

For skin

Antibiotic, anti-fungal, antiseptic, expectorant and antiviral, its often used to inhibit viral and bacterial infections. Add 2-3 drops to olive oil for lip care. For acne, mix a few drops of the essential oil and 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel. Apply to the affected area. Leave for 3 to 4 hours or overnight for better result. Rinse with water and pat dry. Repeat regularly for effective results.

For hair

Tea tree oil helps to unclog hair follicles and gives nourishment to your roots. To use tea tree oil as a hair growth treatment, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with any carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, almond). Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair at least once a day for 2 weeks in order to see amazing results.
