Akshay Kumar Recalls Living In Mumbai's Sion On ₹100 Rent: 'Would Skip Meal To Watch Movies'

Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar, despite his current status as one of the wealthiest actors, often reflects on his modest beginnings. He recently recalled a time when he, along with his family, resided in a small house in Mumbai, where they had to skip a meal if they wanted to watch a film in a theatre.

Akshay's initial home was in Delhi's Chandni Chowk, where he shared a residence with 24 people. "We were 24 people living in the same house. We all slept in the same room. In the mornings, when we woke up for exercise, everyone would scramble over one another to get out," he reminisced.

The actor revealed that later, when they moved to Mumbai, they settled in a house in the Sion Koliwada area, paying a rent of just Rs 100 for it.

However, Akshay emphasized that not a single day passed during those times without smiles and laughter. "Now, even with all the money, there are moments when we feel a bit down, but back then, there was nothing to be sad about," he commented.

Akshay shared that their meals consisted of simple dishes like dal chawal, aloo gobhi, and bhindi, yet they were happy and content.

He also mentioned that they used to watch a movie every Saturday in theatres. "We would skip our morning meal to save money for the tickets," he revealed.

Regarding his upcoming projects, Akshay recently portrayed the real-life hero Jaswant Singh Gill in the film "Mission Raniganj." Although the movie did not perform well at the box office, the actor considers it his best film to date.

Next, Akshay will be seen in "Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan" alongside Tiger Shroff. Additionally, he has projects like "Hera Pheri 3," "Sky Force," and "Welcome To The Jungle" in the pipeline.
