7 Home Remedies To Treat Dengue

Dengue, commonly known as dengue fever, is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, particularly the Aedes aegypti species. It is a major public health concern in many tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including India.
Dengue is caused by one of four closely related dengue viruses (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). The infection can cause symptoms ranging from mild fever to severe illness. Common symptoms include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, and extreme fatigue. In some cases, dengue can progress to severe dengue, which may lead to serious complications such as bleeding, shock, and organ damage.
There is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue, and management mainly focuses on supportive care, adequate hydration, rest, and monitoring for warning signs. Preventing mosquito bites and controlling mosquito breeding sites remain the most effective ways to reduce the spread of dengue.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes. There is no specific home cure that can eliminate the dengue virus, but supportive care at home can help manage symptoms and support recovery in mild cases. If dengue is suspected, it's important to consult a healthcare professional and monitor symptoms closely.
# Stay well hydrated
Dehydration is a major concern in dengue. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, such as:
Water
Oral rehydration solution (ORS)
Coconut water
Fresh fruit juices (without excessive sugar)
Clear soups and broths
# Eat light, nutritious foods
Choose foods that are easy to digest, including:
Khichdi
Rice and dal
Vegetable soups
Bananas
Papaya
Porridge
Boiled vegetables
# Papaya leaf extract
Papaya leaf extract is commonly used in some regions as a traditional remedy. Some studies suggest it may help support platelet counts, but evidence is limited and mixed. It should not replace medical treatment.
# Giloy (Guduchi)
Giloy is used in traditional medicine and may help support hydration and general well-being, though strong scientific evidence for treating dengue is lacking.
# Rest adequately
Getting plenty of rest allows the body to recover and helps reduce fatigue and weakness associated with dengue.
# Kiwi and other fruits
Kiwi, oranges, pomegranates, and other fruits rich in vitamins and fluids can help maintain nutrition and hydration during recovery.
# Manage fever safely
For fever and body aches, doctors generally recommend paracetamol (acetaminophen). Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar pain relievers unless advised by a doctor, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
