Sorab Bedi Breaks Silence on Criticism Following Sanchita Ugale Remarks: ‘Itna Bedil Nahi Hoon’

Actor Sorab Bedi has responded to the criticism he faced over comments made after the death of his Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi co-star Sanchita Ugale. Addressing the controversy, the actor clarified his remarks and appealed to people not to misconstrue what he said.

Sanchita was found dead at her Mumbai residence on Sunday in an alleged suicide case. Speaking to paparazzi on Monday, Sorab revealed that he had spoken to the actress just two days before her death and shared that she had been going through a difficult phase. Describing her emotional state, he said, “Pareshan thi wo bechari” (She was under stress).

His remarks soon sparked criticism online, prompting Sorab to defend himself through a series of Instagram Stories.

Sharing a video, he wrote, “Bhai soch samajh ke bola karo please” (Please think before you speak).

In the video, Sorab explained that multiple paparazzi were questioning him simultaneously, making it difficult to hear every query clearly amid the chaos.

“Bhai mere pas na woh bahut sari paps baat karni aayi thi toh uske baad na aapko har kisi ke questions nahi sunte hain” (There were so many paparazzi trying to talk to me that it was impossible to hear everyone’s questions), he said.

According to Sorab, one photographer had asked, “Woh aapko call kyun kar rahi thi?” (Why was she calling you?). Clarifying his response, he said, “Maine bola tha woh Sanchita mujhe bahut din se call kar rahi hai, main Siliguri mein tha tab bhi hamari baat hui thi” (I had said that Sanchita had been calling me for a long time, and we had even spoken when I was in Siliguri).

Reacting to the trolling, Sorab expressed his disappointment, saying, “Itna bedil main bhi nahi hoon… Har cheez ko galat mat liya karo yaar. Itna bewakoof main bhi nahi hoon aur itna bedil mai bhi nahi hoon… Tumhe pata hai ke woh meri kitni achi dost thi ya nahi thi” (I’m not that heartless. Don’t take everything the wrong way. I’m neither that foolish nor that insensitive. Do you even know how close a friend she was to me?).

To further support his explanation, Sorab later posted another Instagram Story showing the hectic situation outside, where several paparazzi had surrounded him while recording his reactions.

Sanchita Ugale’s Death

Sanchita was known for her work in popular television shows such as Kumkum Bhagya and Wagle Ki Duniya. According to police, the incident took place between 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm on June 14 at Sai Santoshi Building in Achole village, Nalasopara East. She was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom using a saree, with the room locked from the inside. Family members rushed her to a Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“On June 15, based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Machinda Ugale, Achole Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the BNSS,” API Vinod Bagh of Achole Police Station told the media. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the alleged suicide.

Sanchita was widely recognized for playing Diya Tandon in Kumkum Bhagya. She also appeared in films, portraying the younger version of Tara Rani in the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava and sharing screen space with Manoj Bajpayee in the thriller Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout.
