8 Amazing Health Benefits Of Fish Pose

Matsyasana, commonly known as the Fish Pose, is a yoga posture believed to help purify the blood and promote overall well-being. Apart from this, it offers several health benefits. Before exploring its advantages, it is important to understand how to perform this asana correctly.
There are actually two variations of Matsyasana—one performed with folded legs and the other with stretched legs. Since the folded-leg version can be slightly challenging, beginners can start with the variation where the legs are kept straight.
How to perform Matsyasana:
Lie down flat on the floor with your legs straight and close together. Slowly slide your hands underneath your thighs with your palms facing the floor.
Now take a gentle breath in and gradually lift your chest and neck upward. Allow the crown (top) of your head to lightly touch the floor. Your upper body should form a gentle arch, with your head acting as the endpoint of the curve. Make sure most of your body weight is supported by your hands and elbows rather than your head. Hold this position while breathing in and out slowly for about 3–4 breaths. Then gently return to the starting position.
Caution:
Always practise yoga under the guidance of a qualified instructor. It is also advisable to consult your doctor before attempting any yoga posture. If you have existing health problems or muscle pain, avoid practising yoga poses without professional advice.
