# Samdruptse Hill
Located about 5 km from Namchi, Samdruptse Hill, also known as the “wish-fulfilling hill,” stands at an altitude of 2,134 metres (7,000 ft). The hill is renowned for its massive 45-metre statue of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the patron saint of Sikkim who has blessed the region for over 1,200 years. The golden statue glimmers in the sunlight and dominates the skyline. The site also offers breathtaking views of Mt. Khangchenjunga rising above lush green hills under clear blue skies. According to local belief, the hill contains dormant lava, and continuous prayers are said to keep it calm.
# Doling Gompa
Set atop a small hill near the peaceful Barfung village, just 4 km from Ravangla, Doling Gompa is adorned with colourful prayer flags. This monastery belongs to the ancient Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. Built on a raised platform, it provides panoramic views of majestic mountains and dense forests glowing under the bright sun. As you make your way to the monastery, you can also witness locals diligently working in the green cardamom fields that stretch across the landscape.
# Ngadak Monastery
The mystical charm of Ngadak Monastery is truly captivating. Constructed by Tensung Namgyal for Her Highness Pendi Ongmu during the reign of Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal, this monastery lies close to Namchi’s main town. The old structure, partially damaged by a 17th-century earthquake, is now supported with wooden rails, and a new gompa is being built beside it. Being one of Namchi’s oldest monasteries, Ngadak offers a tranquil retreat for meditation and quiet reflection amidst nature.
# Serdup Choling Monastery
Serdup Choling Monastery is another remarkable Buddhist site to visit in Namchi. It stands against a stunning backdrop of Mount Khangchendzonga, separated by the monks’ quarters. Established in 1967 through the combined efforts of the late Serdup Dungzin Jigme Wangchuk Rinpoche and late Khachoed Tulku Dudjom Dorjee, the monastery houses an impressive trio of statues inside the main shrine—Guru Rinpoche, Santaraksita, and Tri Detson.
