Multigrain Bread Recipe

Multigrain bread is a nutritious and wholesome option made by combining a variety of grains and seeds into one delicious loaf. Compared with regular white bread, it generally offers more fiber and a wider range of nutrients, making it a great addition to a balanced diet. Its satisfying texture and nourishing ingredients can also support better digestion and provide steady energy throughout the day.

Preparing multigrain bread at home gives you greater control over what goes into every loaf. You can choose the grains and seeds according to your preference while avoiding unnecessary preservatives, artificial additives, or other ingredients commonly found in some packaged breads.

Whether you prefer it as the foundation for a hearty sandwich, lightly toasted for breakfast, or simply served warm with a little butter, homemade multigrain bread is versatile and easy to enjoy. This simple recipe is straightforward to prepare and can become a practical, wholesome addition to your everyday meal routine.

Ingredients for Multigrain Bread

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup millet flour (optional)

2 tablespoons flax seeds

2 tablespoons sunflower seeds

2 tablespoons sesame seeds

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 1/4 cup warm water

2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

1 tablespoon honey or sugar

1 teaspoon salt

How To Make Multigrain bread

- In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

-In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, rolled oats, millet flour, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, and salt.

- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix everything together to form a sticky dough.

- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. You may add a little flour if the dough is too sticky.

- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.

- Punch down the risen dough to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30-40 minutes.

- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

- Remove the bread from the oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
