Indian student killed in Australia after online date goes wrong

A 25-year-old Indian student has been killed in Australia following a date with a teenage girl he had met through a dating site.

Maulin Rathod, an accounting student was found critically injured at the girl's house on Monday night. He later died at a local hospital on Tuesday night.

Rathod had gone to the house of a 19-year-old girl at Ross Court in Sunbury about 9pm on Monday. He had met the girl online on a dating website.

Emergency services had found Rathod with life-threatening injuries at the girl's house.

The teenager, who lived alone, has been arrested and charged with intentionally causing serious injury.

The reports said her charges will be reviewed following his death and upgraded to manslaughter or murder.

According to his friend Lovepreet Singh, Rathod was the only child of his parents and had moved to Australia four years ago to study.

"His parents are in shock. He had a very humble person and tried really hard with his studies," Singh told an Australian newspaper The Age.

He also added that Rathod's friends are trying to raise money to send his body back to India.
