With This New Feature of Google Maps, You Will Not Get Lost

Google Maps has quietly updated its navigation software with an elevation profile for walking routes – a first for the app.

When you plot a walking route on Google Maps, the hugely-successful app will now provide a graph that maps out the inclines and declines you can expect to come across throughout your walk.

The blue chart shows the highest point you’ll reach while on the trip.

Besides the graphical representation of the hills on your trek, Google Maps will also reveal the total number of feet you’ll have to climb on your route.

The only time you won’t see an new elevation profile appear in Google Maps is when the route you’re plotting is – for all intents and purposes – flat.

This is incredibly useful when trying to work out the most/least strenuous route for your walk.
