Apple Likely To Announce Subscription For Advanced Siri AI

Apple recently unveiled a major upgrade to Siri at WWDC 2026, alongside the introduction of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. Powered by Apple Intelligence, the new Siri AI brings advanced conversational capabilities and is positioned to compete with leading AI assistants such as ChatGPT. However, a new report suggests that some of Siri’s most powerful features could eventually come with a subscription fee.
Siri AI May Require a Paid Subscription in the Future
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple could eventually charge users for access to advanced Siri AI features. In the Q&A section of his Power On newsletter, Gurman noted that while Apple is still working to prove the value of its AI offerings, the company may be able to justify a paid model within the next year.
He explained that running AI-powered services like Siri and Image Playground requires substantial server infrastructure and ongoing operational costs. As a result, Apple may keep traditional Siri functions and on-device personal context features free, while introducing limits on more advanced AI capabilities.
Gurman suggested that the enhanced conversational features, generative AI tools, and broader world-knowledge functions could eventually be subject to usage caps and paid plans, similar to the subscription models offered by other AI platforms, including ChatGPT.
He also revealed that Apple currently allows iCloud+ subscribers to access higher usage limits for certain AI services. However, he believes the company may ultimately launch a dedicated subscription tier specifically for premium AI features.
New Siri Features Arriving Later This Year
Apple introduced the upgraded Siri and enhanced Visual Intelligence capabilities as part of its latest software lineup. Scheduled for public release later this fall, the AI-powered assistant will be able to access information from apps such as Messages, Mail, Photos, and more to perform tasks across supported applications.
The new Siri is also designed to combine information from multiple sources to handle more complex requests. Additionally, Apple has created a dedicated Siri app that allows users to start new conversations from a single interface or seamlessly continue previous interactions.
